A PRAYER FOR A NEW BISHOP OF BRENTWOOD
Father, You have given us your Son, Jesus Christ, to teach, sanctify and govern Your
people. You also gave us the gift of Your Holy Spirit so that we may forever remain one in Your name. We thank You for our past bishops who have served the Diocese of Brentwood. Father, we ask that You look with favour upon those in the Church, who will prayerfully select our new bishop. Give them a Spirit of wisdom and counsel that they may discern Your will. We ask in the name of your Son, that You bless our future bishop. Provide him with the gifts he will need to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ in our Diocese. Grant him the heart of Your Son, the heart of the Good Shepherd.
Bestow upon him the zeal of St. Paul in preaching the Gospel; the humility of St. John Vianney in ministering the sacraments; the compassion of St. Vincent de Paul in serving those most in need; and the wisdom of St. Augustine in teaching the doctrine of the church. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, our Mother and model, and our Lady of Lourdes, Patroness of our Diocese. Amen.

PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO ASSISI - OCTOBER 27th-31st 2012
Fr Hugh is finalizing the details of this year’s parish pilgrimage. This year we plan to go to
Assisi towards the end of October. At the moment he is trying to sort out flights, so more details should be available in next week’s newsletter.

Visit of the Abbot General and election
Fr Hugh writes: “Our Abbot General is coming for another visit from 17th – 19th February. The Norbertine community is having an election for who should be our superior and it is his job to preside over this. This is a very important moment for us and the confreres in solemn vows have to decide who is going to be the Prior of the Norbertine priests and brothers in Chelmsford. Don’t get too excited - I am afraid you are stuck with me as parish priest but please keep the community in your prayers.”

CRB Checks –
Are you a Leader or parishioner/worker involved in parish groups for children or vulnerable adults, and have unsupervised contact with them, if so do you have a CRB Disclosure form?  If not or you are in doubt as to whether you require one please contact your Parish Safeguarding Representative for guidance - Kathryn or Dick Madden for OLI on 287258 and John Bowman on 264419 for Holy Name

Linked Parish Council
The new Linked Parish Council is having an “away day” at Abbotswick on Saturday 11th to think about and reflect on the future for our linked communities and the role the council will play. Please keep it in your prayers.

WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT - BIBLE SEMINAR
A Walk Through the Bible interactive seminar will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Square, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex CM3 5JX on Saturday, 17th March, 9.30am for 9.45am - 5.00p. Cost £14 which includes full colour workbook. For more details contact the Seminar Co-ordinator, Paul Hardy on tel. 325234.

Thirst for Change
This years CAFOD campaign is all about water, and the UK government has awarded CAFOD, UKAID, which means that they will match all Lenten donations pound for pound but only until 17 May 2012. Any donations received after that will not be entitled to the same generosity. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people around the world. See cafod.org.uk/thirst for more details.

Brighton Marathon - for CAFOD
Andrea Green, who attends Mass at both OLI and Holy Name, will be attempting to run the Brighton Marathon in April (she felt this was preferable to throwing herself off a water tower!). Some parishioners may well be attempting the latter, and there maybe other ‘sponsorship’ appeals, but how exciting that you can choose which activity you would prefer someone else to do on your behalf! If running is your thing, please log onto - www.justgiving.com/Andrea-GreenO.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE - SUMMER 2012 - JULY 22ND - JULY 27TH
Fr Hugh writes: “I have to confess that I do not always read the newsletter, so I did not see what the notice about the Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes actually said. Mea culpa! Sadly we are not able to join the diocesan pilgrimage this year as a parish - I am away at the end of July at the Norbertine Order’s General Chapter (it only happens every six years and I am not allowed to miss it), but I hope we will go to Lourdes next year - 2013. If you would like to go with the diocese this year, then please do contact the diocese about that. My apologies for any misunderstanding. I have never been to Lourdes, so am very keen to go but that will have to wait until 2013!”

RUGBY
St John Payne are organising their annual trip to the London Irish Rugby match which is on Sunday 25th March 2012 against Leicester Tigers. Ticket prices include entry ticket and return coach travel. The coach leaves SJP at 10.30am, returning at approx. 8pm. More than a rugby match, the St Patrick’s party will take place at the Madejski stadium in Reading and is a whole day of entertainment. Adults £30, concessions (over 60’s, students and children) £20 each. Seats on the coach are also available for anyone who already has a ticket and just needs transport. Polish Community
Time does not stop for anything and inevitably changes do take place. This is also applicable to the Polish Community. There are only very few old members left and the young will no doubt do things differently. We therefore closed our original bank account and half of the money (£225.00) we are donating to The Parish of Our Lady Immaculate with a very hearty thank you for all the kindness we received from the Parish.

Helping Hands Essex
Helping Hands Essex is setting up a charity in Chelmsford with the Council’s blessing. They have allocated us a house to help people recovering from alcoholism and are looking for volunteers for this project. Therefore a meeting will be held on Saturday 25th and Monday 27th February at 2pm at Trinity Methodist Church. Come along, without obligation, to hear about the project. Tel: Anne Winder on: 01245 475660 for more details.
