CAFOD
Do you want to find out more about how your support can make a difference to people living on the other side of the world? Then meet the people of Musha – a village in eastern Rwanda. Holy Name has just become a part of Connect2:Rwanda – a new CAFOD scheme that will enable us to share the lives of ordinary people in Rwanda and raise money to help them build a better future. Through regular updates, we will share their hopes and dreams and stand in solidarity with them as they work hard to look after their families. To find out more please contact Cathie Wickham, see the notice board or visit cafod.org.uk/connect2rwanda. There will be more information and colourful displays around the church in the coming weeks and we are also sending a cheque for £350.00 to CAFOD specifically to connect2:Rwanda.

• OLI: Marta Fevola
• Holy Name: Ted Denning

VESPERS AND BENEDICTION
There will be Vespers and Benediction this Sunday in the Priory Chapel at 6.00pm.
LECTIONARY AT THE 8.00AM MASS
We will now be using the Revised Standard Version of Scripture for the readings at the 8.00am Mass in the Priory Chapel. The readings are the same but the translation will be slightly different from your missal (if it uses the Jerusalem Bible text for the readings).
CONGRATULATIONS
To Fr. Ambrose O’Gorman, who celebrated 70 years of priesthood in May this year. Fr. O’Gorman was a priest in OLI parish during the 1950’s. He is 98 years old and is retired in Ireland.

RCIA – BECOMING A CATHOLIC
A new course for those thinking of becoming a Catholic, or interested in learning about the Catholic Church begins on Monday, 6th September with an introductory meeting in the Presbytery, 178 New London Road, at 8.00pm. This may be of interest to those married to or engaged to Catholics. Attendance at the meeting or indeed at the course as a whole does not commit anyone. Please tell Fr. Hugh or ring Janice on tel. 362152 if you would like to attend or for further information.
PARISH NEWS ACROSS BOTH THE PARISHES
VISIT OF POPE BENEDICT XVI TO BRITAIN
During his State Visit to our country Pope Benedict XVI will be present at a Vigil of prayer to be held in Hyde Park, London on Saturday, 18th September and will celebrate the beatification of John Henry Cardinal Newman during Mass in Birmingham on Sunday, 19th September.
Each parish in the diocese has been allocated a certain number of places to these events but for safety and security reasons those who wish to attend must book and pay through their parish Papal Visit Co-ordinator who will then issue them a Pilgrim Pass and a Pilgrim Pack. The cost of these for the London event is £10 (including a London Central Zone Travelcard) but you will have to make your own way to London.
The cost for the Birmingham trip is £25 which includes travel by coach departing from a central pick-up point for the Deanery at St. John Payne School, Patching Hall Lane in Chelmsford and where there will be free, but limited, car parking facilities; it would be advisable to share a car with others.
It is anticipated that Hyde Park will be open late morning and the Prayer Vigil will end around 9.00pm. The beatification Mass in Birmingham is due to begin at 9.30am and those attending will have to be in place by 8.30am; this will obviously mean an early start from Chelmsford which has yet to be arranged with the coach company but something in the region of 5.00am or earlier is to be expected.
If you wish to take part in this historic visit by the Pope please contact our Papal Visit Co-ordinator, Sue Palk on tel. 01245 269927, by Sunday, 1st August, providing your name; title; address with postcode; best contact telephone number; mobile number; e-mail address and the respective fee (either cash or cheque made payable to Our Lady Immaculate or Holy Name as appropriate). Because the allocated numbers are so few it will be on a first come first served basis.
RETIRING COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND – JULY, 24TH/25TH – POPE BENEDICT’S VISIT
A retiring collection will be taken this weekend after all Masses to help with the funding of the Pope’s visit in September. We should have had the collection back in May, but we already had a second collection that weekend. Please use your gift aid envelopes and make cheques payable to Our Lady Immaculate or Holy Name Church as appropriate. Please be as generous as you can.
THE PRIORY – ALL CHANGE!
Fr. Hugh writes… “This Summer, the Norbertine community in Chelmsford will have its first official visitation from the Order (a sort of OFSTED for Norbertines). It happens every six years and there are two American Abbots coming to check up on us. Consequently, there will be ten Norbertines living in the Priory (four more than we’re used to!). To cope with this, there will be a couple of changes in the layout of the Priory. The main one for the parish is that what is now a meeting room will become our dining room and what is now the dining room will become a meeting room. After the Visitation, I suspect there will be more changes in the Priory but we’ll keep you posted!”
SVP
The next meeting is on Wednesday, 18th August at 5.00pm in the OLI Parish Hall.
THE PARISHIONER
Could all those who wish to contribute to the next, Autumn edition of our parish magazine The Parishioner, please note that the last date for contributions to be with the editor is 10th August. If there is a problem with meeting this date, then please contact the editor, Ian Dawson on tel. 257463.
CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME 2010/2011 – OUR LADY IMMACULATE AND HOLY NAME CHURCH
Fr. Hugh would like to invite all young people who will be in School year 10 or above in September 2010, wishing to take part in the Parish Confirmation Programme beginning this September, to collect an application form from the back of the church. Applications should be returned to the presbytery by 10th September 2010.
MASS OF THANKSGIVING FOR FR. DOMINIC HOWARTH’S – 7 YEARS AS DIRECTOR AND CHAPLAIN OF THE DIOCESAN YOUTH SERVICE
As Fr. Dominic is leaving the BCYS this Summer, we would like to welcome everyone, particularly the young people of the Diocese and those who work with them, to a Mass of Thanksgiving. The Mass will take place at Brentwood Cathedral on Wednesday, 1st September at 8.00pm. If you would like to send a message for Fr. Dominic’s leaving card, please email: sarah@bcys.net
MASS REQUEST
When requesting a Mass it is important that you write your intentions in block capitals together with the donor’s contact telephone number as Mass dates occasionally have to be changed. Please only use the mass request envelopes that are provided at the back of the Church.
REQUIRED – TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION
Professional, married lady, working in Chelmsford, seeks reasonably priced, temporary accommodation from 1st August to 20th due to family relocation. Sunday night to Friday morning only. References can be provided on tel. 01708 454408 (evening).

SVP – ONGOING PROJECT TO SUPPORT EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN INDIA (MINIMUM DONATION £5)
The SVP would be pleased to accept donations of £5 (or more) towards the cost of educating school children in India or for training doctors, nurses and teachers. Chris Pinto will be pleased to send you details, without obligation. Please Telephone him on (01245) 467764 or email him on chrispinto@hotmail.co.uk SVP – Charity Registration No. 1053992.
